David Krügel

*1959 / South Africa

As a South African acrobatic champion, David fell in love with movement and dance at an early age. After a stint working as a circus performer in Cape Town, he started his formal ballet training at the University of Cape Town Ballet School. Subsequently he gained a scholarship to study with the renowned teacher David Howard in New York City. David has worked around the world with prestigious companies as a dancer and choreographer.

In 1998 Jiří Kylián invited him to dance with the respected Nederlands Dans Theater 3 (company for dancers over forty) where David danced for many choreographers including Jiří Kylián, Hans van Manen, Paul Lightfoot, Robert Wilson, Meryl Tankard and Shusaku Takeuchi. Many of the works of these masters in which he performed were created especially for him. In 2006 David became a freelance artist and in 2013 had a leading role in Jiří Kylián’s film Between Entrance and Exit.
