Nils Petter Molvær

*1960 / Norway

Nils Petter Molvær is a Norwegian trumpeter, composer and producer, widely regarded as one of the most significant pioneers of modern jazz. His debut solo album Khmer (ECM, 1997) brought him to the world stage, and marked the start of a unique musical journey. Having jazz as a creative platform, Molvaer often finds himself in the outer edges of musical styles, transcending genres, merging them and opening unique sonic possibilities for improvised music. After 40 years as an artist, drawing inspiration from electronica, dub, hiphop, rock, classical, folk, traditional world music and jazz, Molvær has produced an extensive catalogue with some of the finest and most accomplished musicians in the world. He is touring extensively and is currently working on a new solo album scheduled for release in 2024.

He also continues to compose music for film, theatre and ballet in addition to commissioned works for festivals. His work has brought him numerous awards, most notably four Norwegian Grammy Awards, The German Journalist Price (Schallplattenpreis) and The European Film Awards for best soundtrack (Great Freedom, 2021). Stitches (Modern Recordings, BMG) is Molvær’s 16th and most current solo album.
